WORKSHOP: “HERDING CATS”: INDIVIDUAL & COLLECTIVE DUTIES & ACTIONS IN DAILY LIFE — HOW CAN THE YOGA COMMUNITY MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN TODAY’S WORLD?
Yoga has always been a place for non-conforming counter-culture types and free spirits. I used to think my personal yoga practice was nobody else’s business. Then yoga became a Business, and I realised I’d have to 'be the change'. This session includes personal reflections on how we might act in our local and more global communities, as well as gentle practices, meditations, pranayamas, contemplations and short discussion. Accessible to all levels of experience and athletic ability.
WORKSHOP: WALKING THE WALK: BEING BENDY IS REALLY NOT WHERE IT’S AT!
This session gives insight into how two very long-term yoga practitioners have developed the work they do in personal practice and in their teaching. I will share the journey that Nigel Jones and I took, from teaching in health clubs, to opening Yoga Junction in London, to running the beautiful retreat at Ashley Court, a bookish sanctuary for yogis in deepest rural Devon. This session will explore what our personal practice looks like now, 20 years on, and why we want to share our experience with you to spread a quiet revolution in the yoga world. It’s really so not about being bendy! This session is a talk illustrated with asana practices that physically demonstrate the journey we have made over the last 25+ years, so you can get a practical feel for where we started and where we have arrived at so far. It’s a bit quirky and unusual as a format, but exemplifies the way we are thinking now. Accessible for all levels, everybody welcome!
Tara Fraser has had a lifelong interest in yoga, has been teaching since 1993 and is a BWY Diploma Course Tutor. She believes yoga can help everyone to live well, feel good and age gracefully. Her teaching style draws on several traditions but is heavily influenced by the personalised and therapeutic approach of TKV Desikachar which has been her own practice for many years. In recent years she has been working with Scaravelli inspired teachers who have added a new and exploratory angle to the yoga she practices and teaches. This has been further supported by her training to become a Rolfer with BARSI
Tara is the founder / co-director of Yoga Junction where she teaches workshops and BWY teacher training programmes. She is the author of five best-selling yoga books (Including Yoga for You and The Easy Yoga Workbook) and lectures and teaches nationally and internationally.
